Procom NAS Solutions Playing Bigger Role in Enterprise Internet Reporting, as Demand for Long-Term Storage Grows

ORANGE, California, October 27, 2004 – 8e6 Technologies, a leading supplier of Internet Filtering and Reporting appliances, announced today that it has begun shipment of a new, smaller filtering appliance and has upgraded the entire appliance line with new features. The company is showing this new product at the T+L2 Conference, the nation's premier educational technology conference, being held in Denver, Colorado, this week.

The new product, dubbed the "8e6 R3000 MSA" for "Mid-size Appliance" is a lower priced alternative to 8e6's larger, enterprise level filtering appliances. Based on a desktop form factor, the R3000 MSA brings enterprise quality filtering to the smaller organization, while retaining the full functionality of 8e6's software.

"We've had a demand from both smaller school districts and the small and medium business (SMB) segment to design a product specifically for them," said Paul Myer, President and COO of 8e6 Technologies. "The R3000 MSA fills this need effectively and at an attractive price point."

At the same time, 8e6 is announcing the 1.5 version of the R3000's software, which boasts a number of new features, including:

  • Real-Time Probe; allows teachers to assign probes to monitor specific
student/computer Internet activities in real time.

  • "X-Strike" blocking; disables a student's Internet access for a
specified period of time after multiple attempts to view blocked sites.

  • Google Safe Search; can block access to inappropriate content within
    the Google search engine.

  • Enhanced 8e6 Library; added Education Cheating, Tobacco and Spyware
    categories.

"Many of our customers are K-12 schools and school districts who install filters to protect children from undesirable content and to retain CIPA compliancy," said Eric Lundbohm, Vice President of Marketing at 8e6. "We have worked closely with these customers to understand their specific needs and have designed this additional feature set for them."

The new 8e6 R3000 MSA begins shipping November 1. The new features are part of 8e6's normal software upgrade process and will be available to all existing and future R3000 customers upon release in December.
