R3000 FAQs
8e6 Customer Feedback Module (CFM)
8e6 recently released a new and very useful product feature called the Customer Feedback Module (CFM). We would like to encourage all R3000 Administrators to turn this feature on.
What is the CFM?
The 8e6 CFM is a feature on the 8e6 R3000 Internet Filter that gathers a predetermined number of “uncategorized” Web sites from your R3000 logs and feeds those back to 8e6. Selected Web sites are prioritized and categorized for inclusion in the 8e6 Database.
What are the overall advantages of CFM?
There are two main advantages for most customers; first is that the 8e6 Database grows based on sites that users at our customers all over the world are surfing, continually increasing the power and accuracy of our database for all users. Second, when this feature is implemented, the 8e6 Database “learns” the unique traffic patterns of your users and allows reports to cover as many sites as possible. This includes industry specific and regional sites that may be continually visited by your users.
What is the advantage for my filtering?
Frequently visited ‘inappropriate’ sites will be added to the database and will prevent further visits to these sites, protecting your liability.
What is the advantage for reporting?
Industry specific Web sites, which your users often visit, will be identified and logged as having legitimate business use. Fewer sites will show up in reports as 'passed', with no assigned category.
Shouldn't I be concerned about the privacy issues?
Of course. 8e6 always strives to protect the privacy of our customers. 8e6 has done everything possible to exclude personal data in the summarized URL data that will be sent back to 8e6 as part of the CFM process.
Won’t the sending back of our traffic use upon considerable bandwidth?
While naturally some bandwidth is required to send back the feedback to 8e6, the CFM process is designed such that summary data only is sent back to 8e6 for analysis.
How do I turn the CFM on?
This feature is accessible via the R3000 Admin Interface, by clicking on Library, then selecting CFM.
